Areas of Childs Development
Blossom and Bloom is a Day Nursery established in Yapton in 2022 for children aged 0-3 and has a beautiful open space with free-flow access to a contained and well-maintained garden. Our preschool space focuses on a home-from-home learning experience based on curiosity and child-led exploration.
Our baby room is a Scandinavian-inspired space focused on stimulating the young brain.
Staff at Blossom and Bloom are all highly qualified and experienced with babies and children and all possess a warm and intuitive quality only found in the rarest of childcare practitioners. Staff at Blossom and Bloom are all aware of the enormous impact they have on a child's early education and are passionate about child development.
We have a 'sister' site, Potter's House Preschool and Forest School - also in Yapton for children aged 2-4 - which was established in 2017. Set in an acre of land it has a focus on outdoor learning and exploration. The children thrive having continuous access to the diverse outdoor space with woodland and a gated-off area for Forest School where the children are able to toast marshmallows, bake bread and sing around a campfire. Potter's House offers various extracurricular activities alongside its typical education such as dancing, multi-sports, farm visits, role-play cities and access to various animals. Potter's House receives 5* feedback from parents and the local community.
Supporting the Whole Child: Why It Matters
Early childhood is a critical period of growth. The experiences children have in their earliest years shape not only how they learn, but how they feel about themselves, others, and the world around them. In a high-quality day nursery and preschool setting, supporting all areas of child development ensures children build strong foundations for school, relationships, and lifelong wellbeing.
At Potter’s House, we believe children thrive when development is approached holistically. Each area of learning is interconnected, and progress in one supports growth in another. This is why we invest in skilled practitioners and specialist support staff who work together to meet each child’s individual needs.
Specialist Support That Makes Us Unique
What truly sets Potter’s House apart is our commitment to early identification, professional collaboration, and tailored support:

-
Our wellbeing & mental health leads ensure we have a happy team and happy children, who can thrive in a wonderful environment.
Together, this team approach ensures every child is supported not only academically, but emotionally, socially, and developmentally.
Our Commitment
By supporting all areas of child development with skilled practitioners and dedicated specialist leads, we create an environment where children feel safe, confident, and ready to learn. We don’t just prepare children for school—we support them in becoming curious, capable, and emotionally secure individuals, ready for the next stage of their journey.
Physical Development
Physical development supports children’s health, coordination, independence, and confidence. Through movement, children strengthen their gross and fine motor skills, learn spatial awareness, and develop the physical control needed for everyday tasks such as dressing, writing, and self-care.
Our outdoor-focused environments and Forest School provision allow children to climb, balance, build, dig, and explore, promoting strength, coordination, and resilience. Physical challenges are carefully supported to encourage safe risk-taking, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
We provide fine motor boards, threading, bikes and scooters, balancing beams and building blocks of all shapes and sizes.
Personal, Social & Emotional Development
A child’s emotional wellbeing underpins all learning. Feeling safe, valued, and understood allows children to build secure relationships, manage emotions, develop empathy, and grow in independence.
Our Mental Health Lead, Katherine, and Wellbeing Lead, Sam, play a vital role in supporting emotional development across our settings. They work closely with staff, children, and families to promote positive mental health, emotional regulation, and resilience. This proactive approach ensures children feel supported during transitions, challenges, and key developmental stages.
Communication & Language
Strong communication skills are essential for learning, social interaction, and emotional expression. Early support in this area helps children develop listening skills, expand vocabulary, and gain confidence in expressing their thoughts and needs.
Our Speech and Language Lead, Nice, works alongside practitioners to identify and support children who may need extra help. Targeted strategies, enriched language environments, and early intervention ensure children are given the best possible opportunity to thrive socially and academically.
Literacy
Literacy begins long before reading and writing. Through stories, mark-making, songs, and conversations, children develop a love of language and an understanding of symbols and meaning.
We embed literacy naturally through storytelling, role-play, outdoor learning, and child-led interests, ensuring children associate reading and writing with enjoyment and confidence rather than pressure.
We provide a special area dedicated to reading and literacy. We also give the children the opportunity to learn phonic sounds and letter shapes before they start school.
Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy
Early mathematical thinking supports logical reasoning, problem-solving, and curiosity. Through play-based experiences, children learn to count, measure, compare, and explore patterns in meaningful, hands-on ways.
Our environments encourage children to ask questions, experiment, and think critically—whether they are building structures, solving challenges outdoors, or engaging in everyday routines.
Expressive Arts & Design
Creative expression allows children to explore emotions, develop imagination, and build confidence. Art, music, movement, and role-play support emotional wellbeing and communication, particularly for children who may find verbal expression challenging.
Children are encouraged to explore materials freely, express ideas creatively, and celebrate their individuality without fear of “getting it wrong.” With out dedicated Arts Teacher Sam on hand across all our settings to help allow the children to express themselves and develop all those key skills.
Knowledge & Understanding Of The World
Understanding the world helps children make sense of their surroundings, develop curiosity, and build respect for diversity, nature, and community.
Our outdoor learning, Forest School experiences, community visits, and hands-on exploration support children in developing awareness of nature, culture, technology, and their place within the wider world.
